Two men were killed and three other people, including a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old, were wounded in a shooting just after midnight Thursday in the 3500 block of East Lombard Street in Southeast Baltimore. It is the city’s latest multiple-victim shooting in a month that has tested a year of historically low homicide numbers, and police have not announced any arrests.
Here is what is confirmed so far, what remains unknown, and how the overnight violence fits into Baltimore’s 2026 crime picture.
What happened on East Lombard Street?
Officers from the Southeast District were called to the 3500 block of East Lombard Street, near South Conkling Street in the Baltimore Highlands neighborhood, at about 12:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, according to WJZ and The Baltimore Banner.
Medics pronounced two men dead at the scene. Police have said one was 37; the second man has not been publicly identified. A 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy were taken to hospitals, and the 15-year-old was listed in critical condition, WMAR reported. A fifth victim, a 23-year-old man who had been shot multiple times, later arrived at a hospital after a citizen drove him there, according to the Banner.
FOX45 crews at the scene described dozens of residents gathered near the crime scene tape as detectives searched the intersection for shell casings and other evidence.
Who are the victims, and is there a suspect?
As of Thursday morning, police had not released the names of the two men who died, had not described a motive and had not said whether the victims were targeted. No suspect description has been made public, and no arrests have been announced. Homicide detectives are leading the investigation.
Early reports from some outlets placed the shooting on Wednesday night; police and local stations put it shortly after midnight Thursday.
Was this the only violence overnight?
No. The Lombard Street shooting capped a stretch of deadly violence across the city that began Wednesday evening, the Banner reported:
- About 5:24 p.m. Wednesday: A 40-year-old woman was stabbed in the 2400 block of Druid Hill Avenue in the Western District. Officers performed CPR, but she died at a hospital.
- Shortly afterward: A ShotSpotter alert sent officers to the 2300 block of Avalon Avenue, also in the Western District, where a 32-year-old man had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
- About 12:15 a.m. Thursday: Five people were shot on East Lombard Street; two men died.
That is four people killed in roughly seven hours.
How does this compare with Baltimore’s 2026 homicide numbers?
The overnight deaths come weeks after City Hall reported continued declines. Through Oct. 1, Baltimore recorded 83 homicides, down from 98 at the same point in 2025, according to a statement from Mayor Brandon Scott’s office. Nonfatal shootings fell by a smaller margin.
| Measure (Jan. 1 to Oct. 1) | 2025 | 2026 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Homicides | 98 | 83 | -15.3% |
| Nonfatal shootings | 236 | 226 | -4.2% |
In that same statement, Scott cautioned against complacency:
“we cannot take these gains for granted”

Why are residents worried about young people being shot?
Two of Thursday’s victims were 14 and 15. That follows other October shootings that hit teenagers and children. On Friday, Oct. 9, two teens, Wesley Harris, 19, and Donte Gregory, 18, were killed and two men were wounded near Ellicott Drive and Oakhurst Place in the Winchester neighborhood of West Baltimore, WJZ reported. Days earlier, 12-year-old Khloe Ishway was killed and four other people were hurt in a shooting during a football game at Leon Day Park. Police arrested Tyree Reynolds in Ishway’s killing and have said they are looking for a second shooter.
The Banner also noted a separate mass shooting in East Baltimore within the past month in which a 3-year-old boy was among the wounded.

Police typically release victims’ names after next of kin are notified, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determines the official cause and manner of death. The Baltimore Chronicle will update this story as police identify the victims, provide the conditions of the wounded teenagers or announce an arrest.
