Experts say that price increases are inevitable.
In Ukraine, prices for food products are rising. This is influenced by a number of factors: military action, inflation, as well as an increase in excise duties and taxes.
This is stated in the article “Novosti.LIVE”.
In the coming months, Ukraine is expected to see an increase in food prices. This was warned by Taras Vysotsky, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food.
According to him, the price of bakery products, as well as fruits and vegetables, is expected to rise. The main factors contributing to this are possible power outages and the need to ensure storage conditions for these products.
Vysotsky also emphasized that some products are especially sensitive to the stability of the power supply.
In the production of bakery products, the main share of costs is energy resources, and, therefore, interruptions in the power supply affect their cost. In addition, a significant amount of electricity is required to store fruits and vegetables.
Oleg Pendzin, head of the public union “Economic Discussion Club”, predicts an increase in food prices.
“Our lowest prices are in August-September. Then everything goes up in price – this is evident from the vegetables of the borscht group (potatoes, onions, carrots, beets, cabbage). The only thing that can stop in price is expensive products, for which the population's demand will decrease due to a decrease in purchasing power,” he said.
Analyst Daniil Monin suggests that in the near future the most significant increase in prices will be for the most affordable products. This will affect not only vegetables included in the borscht set, but also bread, pasta, cereals and other goods. The main factors contributing to the price increase are two aspects.
Firstly, Monin points out that the increase in excise taxes on fuel will lead to higher logistics costs. This will especially affect inexpensive products, since the cost of transporting one kilogram makes up a significant share of their final cost.
Secondly, the decrease in income of the population affects changes in the eating habits of Ukrainians. People are forced to reconsider their diet, which is also reflected in the products they buy.
Recall that the day before, the NBU reported that in the coming months, further acceleration of inflation is expected due to an increase in business costs for wages and electricity, an increase in excise taxes and the effects of the transfer of the hryvnia devaluation.
