Prices for the borscht vegetable have fallen.
Potato prices are falling in Ukraine. Last week, sellers managed to keep the selling prices for this vegetable at a high level, but trade activity gradually decreased.
This was reported by analysts of the EastFruit project.
Producers came to the conclusion that with high prices, it will be extremely difficult to sell volumes of potatoes, especially those that are not suitable for further storage, before the onset of frost.
“As a result, by the middle of the current week, most of them began to synchronously reduce selling prices, trying to revive the interest of wholesalers in their product,” the analysts explained.
Thus, on November 8, farmers in the main production regions shipped high-quality potatoes at 18-28 UAH/kg ($ 0.43-0.68/kg), depending on the volume and quality of the offered products, which is on average 10% cheaper than at the end of the last working week.
According to experts, wholesale companies, many of which have volumes of expensive potatoes purchased on the external market, market earlier, now they are selling excess lots at a loss.
Analysts added that now the owners of high-quality potatoes are in no hurry to sell the existing volumes of products, waiting for the price situation on the market to improve.
It should be noted that now potato prices in Ukraine are on average 2.3 times higher than at the beginning of November 2023.
Recall that the day before, the NBU reported that in the coming months a further acceleration of inflation is expected due to an increase in business expenses for wages and electricity, an increase in excise taxes and the effect of the transfer of the hryvnia devaluation.
