Since its debut in 2019, The Masked Singer has become a television phenomenon, featuring celebrities performing under intricate and mysterious costumes while a panel of judges attempts to guess their identities, reports Baltimore Chronicle via Medinfo. Over the years, dozens of stars have appeared on the show, drawing attention not only for their performances but also for the question of what participants receive in return for their time and effort.

Contestants on The Masked Singer do receive payment for their participation, though the compensation is modest relative to the demands of the show. James Breen, co-executive producer of the series alongside Izzie Pick Ibarra, explained in an interview with CinemaBlend that while members of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) are not working for free, the pay is not the primary incentive for joining the program. Breen emphasized that the show requires full commitment, enthusiasm, and the ability to embrace its unpredictable and whimsical atmosphere, rather than merely offering financial gain.

For those who triumph in the competition, there is no monetary reward. The winner is awarded a Golden Mask trophy, symbolizing their victory and recognition, but without additional cash prizes. The focus, therefore, remains on the unique experience and exposure provided by the series rather than direct financial benefits.

The panel of judges, which currently includes Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Robin Thicke, and Rita Ora (who replaced Nicole Scherzinger in Season 11), is compensated at a significantly higher rate than contestants. While exact figures are not publicly confirmed, estimates suggest that each judge earns between $1.25 million and $2.5 million per season. Their salaries reflect the show’s high profile and the substantial commitment required to participate in each season.

The 14th season of The Masked Singer premiered on Wednesday, January 7, at 8/7c on Fox, continuing the tradition of elaborate performances, surprising reveals, and audience intrigue that has characterized the series since its inception.
