President Vladimir Zelensky and Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau signed an Agreement on Security Cooperation between the countries. The document provides for Canada to allocate more than 3 billion Canadian dollars ($2.2 billion) in macro-financial and defense assistance to Ukraine this year. This was reported by the press service of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

Zelensky praised the signing of the document, noting that it lays a solid foundation for a long-term and deepened partnership between states.
“This is a powerful and timely decision, which is an important contribution to strengthen our resilience,” he said.
The agreement establishes the Canada-Ukraine Strategic Security Partnership, which identifies areas for strengthening bilateral cooperation in a variety of sectors, including defense, stability and resilience.
In addition, the document confirms Canada’s support for Ukraine’s future membership in NATO, in particular by promoting Ukrainian reforms and the compatibility of the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine with the Alliance.
The agreement also establishes a 24-hour emergency response mechanism for repeated military aggression against Ukraine, and also provides for assistance to our country in strengthening its own capabilities to properly respond to a possible escalation of aggression from the Russian Federation.
During the meeting, Zelensky and Trudeau also discussed the provision of new air defense systems, production and transfer as part of a multi-year program to assist Ukraine with armored vehicles necessary for the protection of Ukrainian soldiers and medical evacuation.
