As noted, in connection with the extension in the EU until March 4, 2025 of temporary protection for displaced persons from Ukraine, as well as in accordance with the Polish law of March 12, 2022 on assistance to citizens of Ukraine, it is planned to “extend the validity of certain legal decisions provided for by this law, until June 30, 2024.”

The next step in the Polish government is to begin work on “significant changes and extension of the validity of the law” in accordance with the above-mentioned decision of the Council of the European Union.

“These works will begin immediately after broad consultations with local governments, government agencies, non-governmental organizations and other interested parties,” the draft notes.

It is noted that the draft amendments to the law provide for an extension of the period of legal stay of military personnel refugees in Poland until June 30; the admissibility of the continued use of buildings where military refugees from Ukraine temporarily live in groups; the legality of permits for stay in the Republic of Poland is still valid. In addition, the project provides for an extension until June 30 of this year of the possibility of doctors, dentists, nurses and midwives from Ukraine performing work.

The Polish government plans to adopt these changes to the law on assistance to Ukrainians in the first quarter of 2024. It is proposed that it come into force the next day after its announcement.

According to preliminary data, there are up to one million war refugees from Ukraine in Poland, who arrived in the country after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
