Ukrainian legislative bodies are ready to take measures to combat the problem of noise pollution, including a possible ban on the use of vehicles without mufflers. This measure is a response to growing concerns about destructive noise levels similar to those created by Iranian Shahed drones.
Adviser to the head of the Presidential Office, Mikhail Podolyak, pointed out an existing gap in the legislation, where the police do not yet have the power to sanction drivers of noisy vehicles. To solve this problem, a bill is being developed that will provide authorities with the opportunity to effectively monitor compliance with noise standards.
Podolyak notes the importance of democratic principles, where a society that values freedom allows actions that are not prohibited. This underscores the need for legislators to actively engage in discussions and create regulations to reduce the impact of vehicle noise.
He hoped that future legislation would be effective and robust once passed. The time frame for this initiative has not yet been determined, but it is being actively considered.
