The Chinese-Brazilian 'six-point consensus' on ending the war in Ukraine has received 'positive' responses from more than 110 countries.
This information was reported in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, reports “URA-Inform”.
It is noted that Beijing is ready to strengthen contacts and coordination of efforts to implement this document. The corresponding press release on this matter was published on its information resources by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.
It noted that the PRC Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui visited Brazil on July 29 and, among other things, held meetings and talks with the Chief Special Adviser to the President of Brazil Celso Amorim.
“The six-point consensus” jointly published by China and Brazil to promote a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine has received positive feedback from more than 110 countries,” the statement said.
The essence of the “peace initiatives” is to freeze the war on the current front line and bring Kyiv and Moscow to the negotiating table. The first point is to freeze the conflict by stopping hostilities, refusing to escalate and spread the war to new territories.
The second point is the agreement of Ukraine and the Russian Federation that the end of the war is possible only through diplomatic means through negotiations. The third point speaks of the protection of civilians and objects, respect for the rights of prisoners of war. The fourth point speaks of the unacceptability of the use of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. The fifth is counteraction to attacks on nuclear facilities. The sixth speaks of the need for international cooperation in the fields of energy, finance, trade, etc.
It is important that Beijing previously proposed a “peace plan,” which consisted of 12 points. And the first talked about respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of countries in accordance with international law and the UN Charter. However, in the updated Chinese-Brazilian plan, this point disappeared, which may indicate the desire of these two countries to force Kyiv to give up their territories for the sake of negotiations with Moscow. Ukraine categorically does not accept such a scenario.
The Chinese Special Representative added that Beijing is ready to strengthen contacts and coordination with the Brazilian side on issues of political settlement of the «crisis in Ukraine» and emphasized the need for joint efforts to finally resolve it.
As you know, on May 23, 2024, the governments of Brazil and China published a joint statement on resolving the issue of war between Russia and Ukraine, advocating political negotiations to achieve peace, and called for hold a conference on this matter.
We recall that it was previously reported that China made a new statement about the war in Ukraine: details.
