Sony recently released a new online shooter, Concord, on PlayStation platforms and on Steam. The game, which has been in development for about eight years, became available to players immediately after the success of the company's previous project, Helldivers 2. In Concord, users will have to split into teams of five and fight on various maps. At the start of the game, 16 heroes, six modes, and 12 maps are offered. The developers promise that all future content updates will be free, which should attract attention to the project.
This was reported by URA-Inform, citing UNIAN.
However, despite Sony's ambitious plans, interest in Concord has been lower than expected. According to SteamDB, the number of people playing simultaneously on Steam did not exceed 700 at peak times, and there are currently just over 200 users in the game. Despite this, reviews from early buyers on Steam are mostly positive: 72% of players rated the project as “good”.
Critical opinions have been less favorable. On the OpenCritic platform, the game has an average score of 66 out of 100 for the PlayStation 5. Some reviewers feel that Concord is unfairly criticized, calling it a quality shooter with enjoyable shooting mechanics. At the same time, others point to its derivative nature and lack of unique elements that would make it stand out from the competition.
The situation is complicated by the fact that Concord is a paid shooter with a price tag of $40 (or 1199 UAH in Ukraine), and it will have to compete with popular free games such as Overwatch 2 and Marvel Rivals. Some gaming media outlets have speculated that low interest could force Sony to reconsider its distribution model and move Concord to Free-to-Play (F2P).
