Previously, short stature had a negative impact on longevity, but recently everything has changed.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to CNBC.

Scientists have found that short people live longer than tall people. According to demographer expert Jean-Marie Robin, many years ago people were much shorter than they are today. In ancient times, the inhabitants of our planet often ate poorly during the first year of their lives.

The scientist notes that these people failed to develop properly and were unable to fight infectious diseases. According to him, historically, at the population level, people associated short stature with poor development during the first year of life and with high mortality rates.

“Right now, short people, if they have the best of what's possible in terms of wealth and education, live longer than tall people. When you're taller, you need more cell replication to fill your body, and that can just drain you faster,” Robin adds.

The publication also cited a 2003 study by Elsevier. After analyzing the cause of millions of deaths, scientists found a negative correlation between a person's height and their longevity. The study found that shorter people have lower mortality rates and fewer chronic diet-related diseases, especially after reaching middle age. Shorter people seem to live longer than tall people.

“Of the more than 2,500 Finnish athletes, all of whom were men, the skiers were shorter by about six inches and typically lived nearly seven years longer than the basketball players,” the publication adds.
