Representatives of the Institute for the Study of War decided to analyze the plans of the Russian Federation and answer where a new offensive of the invaders could begin. Apparently, the most likely location for a new attack is already known.

According to Western experts, the Russian military plans to concentrate its forces in the west of the Donetsk region in order to carry out a sustainable, but limited advance in this area.
Ukrainian authorities have previously warned about the accumulation of troops by the invaders along various directions, including Kharkov-Lugansk, near Bakhmut, near Avdiivka and in the west of the Zaporozhye region.
ISW experts note that the Russian army will only be able to choose one location for a new major attack due to limited human resources and planning. However, how long the large-scale battles will last is still unknown. Most likely, Ukraine will be able to seize the initiative only next year, but a period of calm is possible at the end of 2024.
