Russia's attacks on cities with airstrikes and strategic bombs have caused deep destruction to Ukraine's cultural, historical and religious heritage.

A message published by the UK Ministry of Defense on Twitter and transmitted to URA-Inform notes that 70 years ago the UNESCO Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in Armed Conflict was adopted.

According to UNESCO from mid-February 2024, the damage from Russia's actions in Ukraine amounted to $3.5 billion, and the restoration of cultural heritage will require $9 billion and 10 years of effort.

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine also reported that with Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, 1,987 cultural institutions have been damaged. In addition, according to this agency, since the beginning of the invasion, 1062 cultural heritage sites have been destroyed or damaged, and UNESCO has confirmed damage to 129 sites of religious significance as of April 2024.
