On September 11, 2025, on the Zaporizhzhia front, Ukrainian military pilot Oleksandr Borovyk was killed while performing a combat mission in a Su-27 fighter jet. This was reported by the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade of the Ukrainian Air Force, reports Baltimore Chronicle.
According to the military, the incident occurred around 13:30. During the combat sortie, the Su-27 fighter jet suffered fatal damage, resulting in the death of Major Oleksandr Mykolayovych Borovyk of the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade.
The deceased pilot was 30 years old. The brigade stated that an investigation is currently underway to determine all the circumstances and causes of the tragedy.
The Su-27 belongs to the class of heavy multirole fighter jets. Compared to lighter aircraft such as the MiG-29, it can carry a larger combat load and is capable of performing both air-to-air missions and strikes against ground targets.
