NATO has officially invoked Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty following an incident involving Russian drones that violated Polish airspace. As part of this procedure, consultations have already taken place, reports Baltimore Chronicle citing Polsat News.

Government spokesperson Adam Szłapka confirmed that consultations were held, stressing that the situation prompted an immediate response from the Alliance.

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, speaking in the Sejm, announced an official request to NATO to activate Article 4. He emphasized that this step marks only the beginning.

Tusk underlined that Warsaw expects stronger support from its allies during the consultations, noting that this is a confrontation Russia has declared against the free world.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed that the Alliance convened a meeting in the morning to discuss the violation of Polish airspace. He stated that Warsaw had formally requested consultations under Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

According to Rutte, the allies expressed solidarity with Poland and strongly condemned Russia’s actions. He added that the overnight violation should not be seen as an isolated case.
