Military actions in Donetsk region, 134 combat clashes, enemy shelling, UN Security Council meeting. How will the 980th day of full-scale war be remembered?
On the evening of October 30, Russians struck the Saltovsky district of Kharkiv, preliminarily with a KAB, reported the head of the Kharkiv OVA Oleg Sinegubov.
“There was a hit on the fourth floor of a multi-story building. Preliminary – there are victims, including under the rubble. The investigation by emergency services is ongoing,” Sinegubov wrote.
He later added that a fire broke out at the site of the landing, almost the entire entrance of the building was destroyed, and civilian cars were damaged.
“According to preliminary data, seven were injured. The review is ongoing,” Sinegubov reported later.
Igor Terekhov, the head of Kharkov, reported that the Russian strike completely destroyed floors from the sixth to the first floor of a nine-story building. There is currently information about 12 injured, and there may be more people under the rubble.
At 23:32, the city mayor reported that people were blocked on the upper floors of the building and rescue efforts were underway. Ten victims were examined, including two seriously injured – an 11-year-old child and a 22-year-old man. “There is a child under the rubble – rescuers are trying to get him out,” Igor Terekhov reported.
On the evening of October 30, Russia attacked the Odessa region with missiles.
According to the head of the OVA, Oleh Kiper, the enemy fired about ten missiles of different types at the region.
“Information about the consequences will be provided later. All relevant services are working,” Kiper added.
Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that as of 22:00 on October 30, 134 combat clashes had occurred.
The situation in the Kurakhovsky and Pokrovsky directions remained the hottest.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to conduct an operation in the Kursk region, where 19 strikes by 20 Russian guided air bombs have now been carried out.
More details on the operational situation as of the evening of October 30 are in the news.
President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about the reasons for the start of the Kursk operation. According to him, when intelligence received information about the Russians preparing an offensive on Kharkov, Kyiv asked its partners to help with long-range weapons to stop it. The allies were informed that it was necessary to destroy Russian assets on its territory, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with Northern European media. But the partners did not give such permission.
That's why Ukraine had to fight the occupiers already on the territory of the Kharkov region. The Russians were able to destroy some lines, but they were stopped. And after that, information appeared that they were also going to do in the north. Putin said this publicly: that he wanted to create “buffer zones” there. And no one answered Putin.
“A buffer zone across our north, east, our entire territory. What does this mean? He said publicly 10-30 kilometers of our territory. This is hundreds of villages and towns. When we realized that no one would give us long-range weapons, and they were destroying us from their territory in order to create a buffer zone in the north, of course, we decided to go to Kursk to create something similar to a buffer zone on their territory,” the president said.

A UN Security Council meeting will be held on October 30 due to the involvement of the DPRK military in the war in our country.
As reported by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Serhiy Kyslytsya, Ukraine addressed the Swiss presidency with a corresponding request.
“Today, in connection with Ukraine's appeal to the Swiss presidency of the UN Security Council, a meeting of the Council on the deployment of North Korean troops will be held – the start is approximately after 22:15 Kyiv time,” Kyslytsya wrote on his page on the social network H.
Ukraine has completed all the steps that the European Commission listed in the 2022 conclusion on granting our country the status of a candidate for EU membership.
This is evidenced by the draft report of the European Commission on Ukraine, writes “European Pravda”.
The document noted the efforts of our state on the rights of national minorities – this concerns the adoption of the law on national minorities, adopted in December last year. Hungary, however, considers Ukraine's progress in this matter insufficient.
The European Commission noted that “restrictions on fundamental rights related to martial law remain generally proportionate.”
The EC emphasized that, despite the progress in fundamental reforms, “further efforts are needed.”
