The collapse of Michel Barnier's government in France will have a negative impact on military support for Ukraine. This was warned by Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu, who is considered one of the candidates for the post of prime minister.
According to Reuters, most of the aid from France consists of outdated equipment, transferred to our country after it is replaced with new one. However, the failure to approve the 2025 budget and the political crisis put this plan at risk.
Already this year, Paris has not fulfilled its promise to allocate 3 billion euros in support of Ukraine – the real amount slightly exceeded 2 billion.
If the country enters the new 2025 with the old budget, the Ministry of Defense will not be able to fulfill its plan to finance the security sector by 50 billion euros. The deficit will be about 3.3 billion euros. This means no new purchases and, as a result, no more arms transfers to Kyiv.
