On January 21, the Solomyanskyi District Court of Kyiv chose a preventive measure for Max Nazarov, the former host of the pro-Russian TV channels “Nash” and NewsOne, writes IZ. He was taken into custody for 60 days with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 12 million hryvnias. This is reported by Radio Liberty.

What is Nazarov suspected of?

Max Nazarov (real name – Nazar Diorditsa) has been informed of suspicion under parts 2 and 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He is accused of justifying, recognizing as lawful and denying the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, as well as glorifying its participants. The sanction of this article provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The investigation found that after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Nazarov created his own YouTube channel. On this platform, he regularly published videos in which he invited pro-Russian “political experts”, a significant part of whom are currently hiding in Russia. During the broadcasts, Nazarov and his guests justified Russian war crimes, in particular missile strikes on civilian objects, and tried to promote Kremlin narratives.

SBU position and evidence

The Security Service of Ukraine noted that forensic linguistic examination confirmed the presence of justifications for the armed aggression of the Russian Federation in Nazarov's materials. In addition, investigators found that the content of his content undermined the information security of Ukraine and contributed to the spread of anti-Ukrainian ideas.

At the court hearing, Nazarov stated that he did not betray Ukraine and worked for its benefit even during the war. He emphasized that journalists are not responsible for the words of guests on their broadcasts. Nazarov also denied that he maintains contact with former deputy Yevhen Murayev, who is suspected of treason.

Recall that it was recently reported that the chief psychiatrist of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was detained for illegal enrichment of over $1 million.
