All camps are located in the depths of our state – away from the front line, in order to minimize possible provocations and, as required by international humanitarian law,” Okhrimenko said.

He emphasized that Ukraine is pursuing a policy of openness regarding the treatment of Russian prisoners of war, and the UN Monitoring Mission and all special rapporteurs visiting Ukraine have the opportunity to see for themselves how Ukraine has organized the treatment of prisoners of war.

Bohdan Okhrimenko said that during the trip to New York, former Ukrainian prisoners spoke to members of the UN Security Council.

“We wanted the military and civilians who, thanks to the efforts of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, are returning from Russian prisons to tell their stories in the UN Security Council in the first person,” Okhrimenko noted.

Another goal of the trip was “to show the whole world that the Azov servicemen are highly motivated, very patriotic warriors defending their state, and they are not Nazis. That is, Ukraine is ready to share its experience in this war with different countries of the world, for example, in the area of ​​implementing the norms of international humanitarian law, in particular the Geneva Conventions, and at the same time to show how they are violated by Russia.
