From April, the procedure for accruing sick leave will change in Ukraine

New rules for accrual and payment of sick leave will come into force in Ukraine from April 4, 2025, the Pension Fund of Ukraine announced. The changes were introduced by the Law of Ukraine No. 4158-ИХ , which affects the system of mandatory state social insurance, IZ writes.

According to the updated legislation, temporary disability and maternity benefits will be paid not only at the main place of work, but also at all places of part-time employment. This means that employees who have multiple sources of income will be able to receive benefits from each place of work.

The restriction on the number of jobs for which sick leave is accrued will also disappear. Each employer will be obliged to pay for the first five days of incapacity for work at its own expense. In the future, the Pension Fund of Ukraine will finance sick leave, starting from the sixth day of temporary incapacity for work.

The amount of benefits will now be 100% of the employee's average earnings, regardless of their insurance experience. This provision ensures equal compensation conditions for both experienced workers and those who have recently found a job.

In addition to changes in sick pay, innovations concern the provision of social services for persons in need of medical care, household services, or special nutrition. These services will be provided through government-designated providers in accordance with the approved procedure.

Also, starting April 4, monthly cash compensation will be introduced for family members or other persons caring for the sick. The amount of compensation will depend on the person's needs:

  • 100% of the minimum wage – if there is a need for special medical care;
  • 50% – if constant external care is needed;
  • 25% – if necessary household services.

As a reminder, we previously wrote that some students may receive summonses in April.
