On August 15, the first meeting between the U.S. and Russian presidents since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine took place in Alaska. Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin held talks at the U.S. Air Force Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, reports Baltimore Chronicle, with reference to DW. The meeting was held in a “three-on-three” format, with U.S. President Trump being accompanied by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff, while Russian representatives included Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Putin’s Assistant Yuri Ushakov.

U.S. President Trump emphasized that no deal had yet been reached regarding the end of the war in Ukraine. During a joint press conference, both Trump and Putin refrained from answering questions from the press. The American leader also announced upcoming phone talks with the President of Ukraine and NATO partners.
