The American publication Politico writes that the group legislators in the European Parliament sent a letter to the European Commission calling on Brussels to investigate Budapest's decision to simplify entry conditions for citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus, NBN reports.
They claim that such a policy of the Hungarian leadership threatens the functioning of the Schengen zone and call for questioning the country's presence in this zone if Budapest does not change its position on easing visa restrictions for citizens of Russia and Belarus.
The document, which collected about 70 signatures, states that in this case, EU member states may not recognize Hungarian visas and introduce controls on the border with the country to protect European citizens.
As reported, the EU proposed that Hungary transit oil through Croatia. The Foreign Ministry explained why Budapest will not consider this option.
