Durov, who is a citizen of the UAE and France, is currently in custody, and his detention has been extended to 96 hours. French law enforcement accuses him of failing to take adequate measures to prevent criminal use of Telegram.
Telegram said it strictly follows industry standards for moderation and is constantly improving its methods. The company believes that it is absurd to hold the platform’s owner responsible for abuses. Telegram emphasizes its compliance with EU law, including the Digital Services Act, and hopes for a speedy resolution to the situation.
The Russian Embassy in France is actively working to determine the reasons for Durov's detention and protect his rights, while the Russian Foreign Ministry has expressed concern about the interaction of the French authorities with Russian officials.
