In an interview with podcaster Lex Friedman, the President said that he would like to come to the ceremony of Trump's inauguration as head of state, but he will take into account the situation in Ukraine, the publication reports “NBN”.
According to the guarantor, he cannot come to the inauguration unless he receives a direct invitation to the event from the newly elected American leader, because it would simply be ugly.
Zelensky explained that usually leaders of foreign states are not invited to the inauguration of US presidents, some politicians can come of their own free will. However, it is difficult for the head of Ukraine to come as a guest without an invitation, and he does not want to violate etiquette.
The head of state compared his situation with the actions of the Kremlin dictator – Vladimir Putin was not invited to our country, but he came.
The guarantor added that his trip to the United States will require additional security measures, but he does not want to create problems.
Earlier, the president said that he plans to meet with Trump after his inauguration.
