As reported by NBN, citing material from The Washington Post, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth compiled a secret document for Pentagon military functionaries, in which China, and not the Russian Federation, is identified as the key threat to US security.
According to the document, when planning scenarios of a potential large-scale armed conflict, China is considered as the main enemy. At the same time, when an identical threat is formed from the Russian Federation, responsibility for defensive actions is, as a priority, assigned to European allies in the NATO bloc.
In particular, the US Department of Defense intends to prevent China from annexing Taiwan by expanding the US military presence in the waters of the Indian-Pacific region. The plans include strengthening the protection of US bases, increasing strategic reserves and improving the logistics chain, while simultaneously increasing pressure on Taipei, which must significantly increase defense spending – at least to 10 percent of GDP.
It is noteworthy that the Pentagon emphasizes that the United States has a limited resource base (funds and personnel) in various regions and is not able to contain Russia, the DPRK and Iran, therefore partners in Europe, the Middle East and Asia should promptly increase their defense spending.
