Authorities discovered a body near the residence of a Texas teenager who vanished on Christmas Eve, marking a tragic turn in the ongoing search, report Baltimore Chronicle via Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. Camila Mendoza Olmos, 19, was last seen early Wednesday morning. Following reports that suggested she was in “imminent danger,” deputies from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, along with community volunteers, conducted continuous searches around the area.
On Tuesday afternoon, investigators located a body in a field approximately 100 yards from Mendoza Olmos’ northwest Bexar County home, Sheriff Javier Salazar confirmed. Authorities stated that, at this stage, there is no evidence to suggest foul play. The deceased has not yet been officially identified, and the cause and manner of death remain under review by the local medical examiner.
Salazar noted the presence of a firearm at the scene, mentioning that a firearm belonging to a relative of Mendoza Olmos had previously been reported missing. Officials have not yet confirmed whether the firearm found corresponds to the missing weapon. The sheriff also highlighted indicators that may point to self-harm, referencing signs of suicidal ideation and potential undiagnosed depression.
Investigators are examining video footage from early Wednesday, which shows Mendoza Olmos searching her vehicle for an unidentified item. Evidence suggests that she likely left the residence on foot, as her vehicle remained at the scene.
The body was discovered shortly before 5 p.m. local time. Although the area had been previously searched, authorities returned to the field due to its tall grass and the potential for overlooked evidence. Clothing found on the body matched descriptions of what Mendoza Olmos was believed to be wearing at the time of her disappearance.
During the search, a dashcam video captured a woman walking alone on Wednesday morning, though it remains unclear whether the individual seen is Mendoza Olmos.
