In the 1/8 finals, Elina will fight the winner of the match between Poland's Iga Szwiatek and American Sloane Stephens.
The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina made it to the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai (UAE).
In the second round, the 29-year-old Ukrainian (No. 20 WTA) beat Tatyana Maria from Germany (No. 50 WTA).
The match lasted 1 hour 13 minutes and ended with a score of 6:3, 6:3 in favor of the Ukrainian tennis player.
Let us add that it was sixth personal meeting of tennis players. Now the Ukrainian and the German have three victories each.
At the start of this tournament, Svitolina defeated another Ukrainian Angelina Kalinina.
Note that this is the first tournament for Svitolina after the Australian Open 2024, where she left the match in tears in the 1/8 finals against Czech Linda Noskova due to a back injury.
Svitolina is the only Ukrainian who continues performances at the tournament in Dubai. Earlier, Lesya Tsurenko and Marta Kostyuk withdrew from the competition due to health problems, and Dayana Yastremskaya lost to the “neutral” Russian Veronika Kudermetova in the first round.
In the 1/8 finals, Elina’s opponent will be the winner of the match between the first racket of the world by Polish Iga Szwiatek and American Sloane Stephens.
