Poles Bartosz Frankowski and Tomasz Musial were detained by the police in a drunken state.
The Union of European Football (UEFA) replaced two referees of the first match of the third round of the 2024/25 Champions League qualification between Dynamo Kyiv and the Scottish “Rangers”.
According to TVP Sport, Poles Bartosz Frankowski and Tomasz Musial were supposed to be the VAR referee and his assistant, respectively, but the night before the match they got into a big scandal.
At about 1:40 a.m. local time, they were detained by the police in Lublin, Poland, in a drunken state. Frankowski’s blood was found to contain 1.7 ppm of alcohol, Musial’s – 1.8 ppm.
According to the source, the Polish referees, together with another drunk friend, stole a road sign and ran away with it to a shopping mall. The three men will be tried for the destruction of road infrastructure.
After this incident, UEFA replaced the VAR referees for the Dynamo – Rangers match. Frankowski and Musial will be replaced by their compatriots – Tomasz Kwiatkowski and Pawel Malec.
The Dynamo – Rangers match will take place on Tuesday, August 6, at the Arena Lublin in Lublin, Poland. The starting whistle will sound at 21:00 Kyiv time.

The return match will take place on Tuesday, August 13, at Hampden Park stadium in Glasgow. The match starts at 21:45 Kyiv time.
The winner of the Dynamo vs. Rangers match in the playoff round of the Champions League qualification will compete for a ticket to the main stage of the most prestigious European Cup with the winner of the Salzburg (Austria) vs. Twente (Netherlands) match.
Whoever loses the two-match duel between Dynamo and Rangers will automatically qualify for the main stage of the second-ranking European tournament, the Europa League.
