Marta Kostyuk and Angelina Kalinina have made a successful start to their performances at the US Open.
Ukrainian tennis players Marta Kostyuk and Angelina Kalinina have reached the second round of the 2024 US Open.
At the start of the main draw, Kostyuk (No. 19 WTA) confidently defeated McCartney Kessler from the USA (No. 63 WTA) with a score of 6:2, 6:3. And Kalinina (No. 55 WTA) dealt with the Frenchwoman Oceane Dodin (No. 86 WTA) – 6:1, 3:6, 6:1.
In the second round, Kostyuk will fight against the British Harriet Dart (No. 78 WTA), and Kalinina in the “Ukrainian derby” will meet Elina Svitolina (No. 28 WTA), who in the first round won a strong-willed victory over the Argentine Maria Lourdes Carle (No. 83 WTA).
Three more Ukrainians failed to get past the starting round of the 2024 US Open. Dajana Yastremska (No. 34 WTA) lost to German Jula Niemeyer (No. 101 WTA) – 4:6, 7:6, 4:6. Yulia Starodubtseva (No. 146 WTA) lost to former world number one “neutral” Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (No. 20 WTA) – 6:3, 1:6, 1:6. And Lesia Tsurenko (No. 85 WTA) was defeated by American Peyton Stearns (WTA No. 47) – 1:6, 5:7.
The last Ukrainian to play in the first round of the 2024 US Open will be Ekaterina Beindl (No. 329 WTA). On Tuesday, August 27, she will face Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (No. 65 WTA).
The main draw of the 2024 US Open will run from August 26 to September 8. The current US Open champion is American Cori Gauff, who defeated the “neutral” Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka in the final last year.
