Viktor Tsygankov's club lost to a representative of the fourth-strongest division of Spain.
“Girona" of Ukrainian midfielder Viktor Tsygankov were knocked out of the Spanish Cup, suffering a sensational defeat to a fourth-division club Logroñesa.
The teams did not score any goals in the regular and extra time (0:0), so the winner was determined by a penalty shootout.
Logroñesa goalkeeper Enrique Royo left the field due to injury in the first extra time. Since the hosts had no more substitutes left, 19-year-old defender Paul Arnau had to go in goal, and he ended up becoming the hero of the match.
Arnau blocked a shot from Abel Ruiz in the penalty shootout. In addition, Girona's decisive penalty was missed by Cristian Stuani, who hit the crossbar.
Thus, Logrones won the penalty shootout with a score of 4:3 and advanced to the 1/16 finals of the Spanish Cup, while Girona ended its participation in this tournament.
It should be noted that Tsygankov missed this match due to an injury. The 27-year-old Ukrainian is expected to be out of action until the end of 2024.
