Daria Snigur failed to reach the second round of the Australian Open.
Ukrainian tennis player Daria Snigur failed to overcome the first round of the main draw of the Australian Open-2025.
The 22-year-old Ukrainian (No. 138 WTA) lost in a tense battle to the 11th racket of the world, American Danielle Collins.
The match lasted 1 hour 41 minutes and ended with a score of 6:7, 3:6. This was the first face-to-face meeting of the tennis players.
It should be noted that Snigur got into the main draw of the Australian Open-2025 due to the fact that she managed to overcome three rounds of qualification before that.
Daria became the second Ukrainian to stop playing at the Australian Open. Earlier, Yulia Starodubtseva also left the tournament, losing to Leyla Fernandez from Canada in the first round (5:7, 4:6).
In turn, Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostyuk made it to the second round of the Australian Open-2025.
Two more Ukrainian tennis players, Dayana Yastremska and Angelina Kalinina, will play their first round matches of the Australian major on Tuesday, January 14.
The main draw matches of the Australian Open-2025 will be held from January 12 to 26. The current champion of the tournament is Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, who is playing in a neutral status due to the full-scale war of Russian occupiers against Ukraine.
Recall that in the singles tournament of the Australian Open-2024, the best result among Ukrainian tennis players was shown by Yastremska, who reached the semi-finals, where she lost to Chinese Zheng Qinwen.
