Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina (WTA No. 17) has reached the semifinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid for the first time in her career, securing a convincing victory over Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima (WTA No. 56) with a score of 6–2, 6–1, reports the Baltimore Chronicle.
The match lasted 54 minutes, during which Svitolina delivered four aces and committed no double faults.
This result marks Svitolina’s best performance at the Madrid tournament, where she had never progressed beyond the second round before.
On her way to the semifinals, the Ukrainian also defeated Britain’s Sonay Kartal, Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina, and Greece’s Maria Sakkari.
Overall, Svitolina extended her winning streak to 11 matches without dropping a single set. This series includes two victories in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers and five wins at the WTA 250 tournament in Rouen, France, where she claimed the title.
The total set score in this streak is 22:0, a personal record for the tennis player.
In the semifinals, Svitolina will face the winner of the match between fellow Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, which is scheduled for April 30 at 9:00 p.m. Kyiv time.
