The Ukrainian is ready to be allowed to postpone the fight against the New Zealand challenger.
WBA, WBO, WBC and IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk may retain his WBO title without a fight with the organization's interim champion Joseph Parker .
The President of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Gustavo Oliveri said that for this to happen, the Ukrainian boxer must send an official request to postpone the mandatory defense of the belt.
“The WBO has ordered Usyk to make a mandatory defense of his heavyweight title against Parker in accordance with the established requirements. However, we have the opportunity to postpone this fight to a later date. To do this, the Ukrainian champion's team must send an appeal regarding the postponement. In this case, the WBO committee will make the appropriate decision,” Oliveri said in a commentary to Sky Sports.
Earlier, Usyk responded to the WBO's decision to order him to defend his title against Parker, stating that his goal is a unification fight with IBF title holder, Briton Daniel Dubois.
At the same time, Parker very originally challenged Usyk to a fight, filming an epic video on the ocean shore to Shania Twain's song “You're Still The One”.
The 38-year-old Usyk has 23 wins (14 by knockout) in 23 professional fights.
In his last fight, on the night of December 22, 2024, Alexander defeated Briton Tyson Fury in a rematch and defended his WBA, WBO, WBC and IBO heavyweight world titles.
