Two teams have changed the design of their rear wings

New testing requirements for the FIA's assessment of the flexural rigidity of the rear wing's upper bar come into force today.

According to Article 3.15.17 of the Technical Regulations, if a vertical load of 75 kg is applied to either end of the main plane of the rear wing, the distance between the main plane and the flap (known as the “gap”) must not change by more than 2 mm.

In Shanghai the gap has been reduced to 0.5mm, but as an exception due to the teams only being informed of the new changes on March 17, a tolerance of 0.25mm from 0.5mm will be allowed in Shanghai.

According to Sky Sports, two teams had to make changes to their rear wings – Alpine and Haas. This essentially confirms that the rear wings on these teams’ cars in Melbourne did not comply with the new technical regulations. Interestingly, Alpine and Haas did not earn points in the first stage of the season.
