Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina has concluded her campaign at the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome, losing in the quarterfinal to American Peyton Stearns, reports the Baltimore Chronicle.

In a match that lasted over two and a half hours, Svitolina lost the opening set 2–6. She managed to level the score in the second set, winning 6–4. The third set turned out to be the most intense. Despite taking a medical timeout due to a leg issue, Stearns held on and secured victory in the tiebreak — 7–6.

Before this match, Svitolina had shown confident performance on the Roman courts and was considered one of the tournament’s contenders. This quarterfinal appearance marked her third at WTA 1000 tournaments in 2025, following similar results in Indian Wells and Madrid. Svitolina had previously won the Rome title in 2017 and 2018.

For reaching the quarterfinal, she earned €125,000 in prize money. Her next major competition will be the French Open (Roland Garros), which begins on May 25.
