Temporary WBA heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley (19–0–1, 18 KOs) shared his perspective on the upcoming fight against New Zealand boxer Joseph Parker and revealed that facing undisputed world champion Oleksandr Usyk is one of his ultimate career goals. Wardley emphasized that a potential bout with Usyk is a major motivation for him, yet he must first focus on his match against Parker, scheduled for October 25, reports Baltimore Chronicle.
The British fighter described the Parker fight, taking place at London’s O2 Arena, as the toughest challenge in his boxing career so far. He highlighted Parker’s strength and experience and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to face such a formidable opponent. Wardley explained that his promoter, Frank Warren, arranged this fight knowing that Usyk is currently unavailable, providing Wardley with the strongest available competitor.
Wardley also expressed respect for Parker, who accepted the fight rather than waiting for a title shot. He noted that Parker might be somewhat frustrated by having to fight another opponent, even though he has long deserved a championship opportunity.
According to plans, the winner of the Wardley vs. Parker fight will earn the right to face Ukrainian champion Oleksandr Usyk, the holder of all major heavyweight titles, in 2026.
