After winning the temporary belt, Sergei aims to fight for a full world champion title.

The newly crowned interim WBC junior middleweight champion Sergey Bogachuk commented on his victory over American Brian Mendoza.

On the night of March 31 in Las Vegas (USA), the 28-year-old Ukrainian defeated his opponent by unanimous decision.

Bogachuk dedicated this triumph to Ukraine and his compatriots, who continue to defend their homeland from Russian occupiers.

“Firstly, I want to say that this victory is for Ukraine, the Ukrainian people. We are going through difficult times. And with this speech I want to motivate our people to win.

I want to say for Ukrainian fans – hang in there, we will definitely win. Support me, and I will try to win and motivate you. Together we will win. Ukrainians are unbending people,” said Sergei.

Bogachuk also shared his emotions from the victory over Mendoza and stated that he wants to fight the next fight for a full-fledged, and not a temporary, championship title.

“Although 12 rounds behind me, I feel great. I think I can do another 12 rounds. It was easy, great feeling. I was ready for this fight. It was a very important fight in my career. Perhaps the best fight of mine. professional career, now I'm happy, I'm a world champion.

Mendoza is an excellent boxer, has a lot of experience and he's in good shape. In the previous fight, Mendoza knocked out Fundora, an excellent boxer. For me it was a serious opponent.

Next – maybe Sebastian Fundora, maybe Tim Tszyu. One of them will win. I want to become the best, I want to become the world champion, I want to collect all the titles. Come on guys, I'm ready to fight the best opponents. I want to become the absolute world champion,” the Ukrainian summed up.

Note that Bogachuk was supposed to box with Fundora for the full vacant WBC junior middleweight belt. However, the Ukrainian was deprived of the championship fight – Fundora replaced the injured Keith Thurman in the fight against Timofey Tszyu and won, taking the WBO and WBC junior middleweight titles.

Bogachuk’s track record includes 24 victories (23 by knockout) and the only defeat in professional training that he suffered in 2021 from the American Brandon Adams.
