Volkswagen has unveiled a new crossover, the Tera. The model will hit the Brazilian market this year and will cost between $17,000 and $24,000. Technically, the Tera is close to the Polo hatchback.

Tera premiered during the Brazilian carnival. The crossover was developed by the Brazilian division of Volkswagen. It will be manufactured at the local plant in Taubate, and the new product will have to compete with Fiat Pulse and Renault Kardian. Tera will be positioned below Nivus and T-Cross in the model range and may even replace some versions of Polo.
The crossover is based on the front-wheel drive MQB-A0 platform. So far, only one power unit has been declared – a three-cylinder petrol turbo engine 1.0 TSI with 116 hp paired with a six-speed automatic. The equipment of the top versions will include LED optics, a 10-inch digital instrument panel, a Volkswagen Play Connect media system with support for Brazilian online services, wireless charging and 17-inch wheels.
Tera also has several “Easter eggs”. For example, the inscription Trip Mode On in the trunk and the silhouettes of Beetle, Gol and Tera itself on the rear window, which should indicate the popular status of the model. Tera will go on sale in Brazil in the first quarter of this year.
