U.S. President Donald Trump has called for the death penalty for 34-year-old homeless man DeCarlos Brown Jr., who is suspected of murdering 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska. The tragedy occurred on August 22 in Charlotte, reports Baltimore Chronicle with a link to Truth Social.
In his statement, Trump referred to the suspect as an “animal” who brutally took the life of a “beautiful young woman from Ukraine seeking peace and safety in America.” He emphasized that the case should undergo a “swift” judicial process, with the only acceptable sentence being the death penalty.
The American president has actively used the tragedy in his election campaign. On September 9, he sharply criticized Democratic policies during a national address, claiming they have contributed to rising crime rates in the country.
Meanwhile, entrepreneur Elon Musk joined the discussion. On social media platform X, he announced that he would contribute $1 million to create murals featuring Iryna Zarutska. The initiative was proposed by Irish Intercom CEO Eoghan McCabe, known for supporting Trump’s campaign and calling for investigations into media coverage of migration issues.
Musk confirmed his support for the project, stating, “I will contribute $1 million.” In recent days, Musk, along with conservative English-speaking bloggers and White House representatives, has actively shared information about the attack on the Ukrainian woman, including video footage of the crime. Musk repeatedly reposted messages highlighting the “correlation between race and crime rates” and criticizing media coverage of the murder.
