French police arrested several new suspects on October 29 in connection with the high-profile robbery at the Louvre Museum that took place more than a week ago. The report comes from Baltimore Chronicle citing French media outlets Le Figaro and BMFTV.
According to BMFTV, one male suspect was detained in Paris and is believed to be part of the group responsible for the Louvre heist. He was reportedly present at the scene on the day of the crime. However, Le Figaro and several other French outlets have indicated that police actually arrested four suspects, including “one of the main suspects” in the case.
Paris Prosecutor Laure Beccuau confirmed the arrests live on RTL, specifying that a total of five individuals were taken into custody. Two of them have already been officially charged. One is a 34-year-old Algerian national who previously worked as a delivery driver and has a record for theft. The second is a 39-year-old man who was working illegally as a courier and taxi driver and also has a criminal history involving aggravated theft.
According to the prosecutor, both suspects have partially admitted their involvement in the robbery. In total, investigators were searching for four suspects who allegedly broke into the Louvre gallery and two accomplices who helped them escape on scooters. Authorities are also investigating the possible involvement of a museum security employee who may have provided the criminals with information about the Louvre’s security system.
