Ukrainian men who have applied for permanent residence in Canada are receiving official letters from the Immigration Ministry, requesting proof of exemption from military service. Reports Baltimore Chronicle, with reference to the Ukrainian Canada public page.
According to the source, these are so-called “Letters of Happiness” — Procedural fairness letters sent by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The documents require applicants to provide official confirmation that they have been exempted from military service and were not subject to conscription during wartime.
