According to an analysis of official German statistics conducted by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Federal Republic of Germany, the trade volume between Ukraine and Germany in 2024 has, for the first time since 1992, exceeded the trade between Germany and Russia, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to the online discussion “How has Russia’s invasion changed economic relations between Ukraine and Germany?”.

Vitalii Ivashchuk, Economic Affairs Advisor at the Ukrainian Embassy in Germany, stated that in September 2023, the monthly trade turnover between Ukraine and Germany surpassed that of Germany with the Russian Federation for the first time. During this period, trade between Ukraine and Germany reached €840 million, while German-Russian trade amounted to €770 million.

Ukraine’s key exports to Germany include food products, metals and metal goods, machinery, equipment, and transportation vehicles.

The Ukrainian Embassy in Germany also emphasized that the most promising sectors for German businesses and bilateral trade development include Ukraine’s postwar reconstruction. Energy, IT, and digitalization were also highlighted as vital areas for future cooperation.
