Inflation in Italy, calculated according to national standards, accelerated in February to 1.7% year-on-year from 1.5% the previous month, according to preliminary data from the Italian statistical agency Istat.

The data matched expectations of analysts surveyed by Trading Economics, pointing to a record pace of consumer price growth since September 2023.
Inflation, calculated according to European Union standards, was 1.7%, the same as in January, while experts expected an acceleration to 1.8%.
How prices have changed
Energy prices have jumped 31.5% this month after rising 27.5% in January, a preliminary report showed.
Transport services rose by 1.9% after rising by 2.5% the previous month, and communication services rose by 0.5% after rising by 1.1%.
Services in general increased in price by 2.4% (in January – by 2.6%).
Food prices rose 2.2% after rising 1.7%.
Core inflation excluding energy and food products remained at 1.8% in February.
