Over the past month, the total capitalization of cryptocurrencies has fallen by more than 20% – from $3.6 trillion to $2.8 trillion. This was caused by the growth of negative sentiment, the largest break in history (Bybit's losses reached $1.5 billion), as well as the decline in memecoin activity. Negative dynamics were also seen in traditional financial markets, with NVDA, GOOGL and AMZN shares all showing negative results since the beginning of the year, while the consumer and information technology sectors lost 6% and 3%, respectively.
Adding to the pressure was trade tensions, with US President Donald Trump reiterating 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, which has undermined investor confidence and sent US Treasury yields to two-month lows.
The cryptocurrency market suffered a significant decline, with altcoins seeing the biggest losses. Solana (-38%) and DOGE (-33.7%) were the biggest losers, indicating an outflow of liquidity from risky assets. Ethereum (-20%) and XRP (-19.2%) also suffered significant losses, while Bitcoin (-16%) fell less, confirming its status as a relatively safe asset.
Despite the overall market decline, the stablecoin market grew to $224B (+10%), and real assets (RWA) to $17B (+17%), indicating growing investor interest in stable assets.
