On the night of January 8, the Ukrainian Air Force reported the use of aerial bombs by Russian tactical aviation in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Dialog.
However, residents of the region should not panic yet. Reserve Colonel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, military pilot-instructor Roman Svitan explained that Russian troops have been within 10 kilometers of the region's borders for the third year already. However, their guided aerial bombs (GAB) are not capable of reaching such large cities as Pavlograd, Dnipro or Krivoy Rog.
«The average range of Russian KABs is 50-70 km. Why did bombs fly over this area only now, and not two years ago? Because, most likely, our troops are being transferred in this direction, for example, to the Vremyevskoye direction. And the Russians are trying to carry out air strikes on Ukrainian units, that is, nothing new has happened at the moment», the military analyst explained.
However, Svitan stressed that the threat from other types of weapons, such as Iskanders, Kinzhals, and Kh-101 and Kh-555 missiles, remains relevant. To effectively protect against these threats, Ukraine must increase the density of air defense systems and introduce new means, in particular anti-ballistic systems such as Patriot and SAMP/T.
Only Western partners have these systems, so Ukraine needs to continue active cooperation with allies and increase the volume of requests for supplies.
«But we understand that it is not yet advisable to pull Patriot to Kharkov, since it will be destroyed near the front line. First, the front line needs to be pushed back, that is, an operation needs to be carried out there, like in Kursk region, and then Patriot can be deployed,” the expert said.
Recall that earlier it was reported that Zelensky realized that the US would no longer provide weapons: an insider revealed what the Ukrainian leader is planning.
