One person died after a U-Haul truck appeared to have accidentally exploded in a parking lot in Lewiston, Idaho, early Saturday, officials reported, Baltimore Chronicle.
The explosion caused significant damage within the blast radius, affecting nearby businesses including a Courtyard Marriott hotel and an Old Navy store, according to the Lewiston Fire Department and the City of Lewiston Police Department.
Initial findings indicate that the vehicle was carrying stored materials, including flammable items such as gasoline and propane tanks, officials said. Despite the explosion, there was no subsequent fire.
“At this time, there is no indication the incident is criminal in nature,” Lewiston Fire Marshal Julian Sorrell said in a statement.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, as authorities continue to assess the circumstances surrounding the blast and the materials involved.
