Home Depot St. Mary’s County plans are moving forward at Lexington Exchange in California, Maryland. The retailer will establish its first Southern Maryland location there, according to developer St. John Properties. The project adds a major national retailer to one of the county’s expanding commercial hubs, reports Baltimore Chronicle. The announcement was reported by WMAR-2 News, citing the original St. John Properties announcement.
Where the new Home Depot in St. Mary’s County will be located
The Home Depot acquired a 13.52-acre parcel inside Lexington Exchange. The mixed-use development covers about 140 acres in California, Maryland.
Lexington Exchange sits along Three Notch Road, or Maryland Route 235. It is also within 0.5 miles of Patuxent Beach Road.
Several established businesses already operate at the development:
- ALDI
- Royal Farms
- Chipotle Mexican Grill
- RC Theatres
The arrival of Home Depot will expand the retail mix significantly. Local homeowners and contractors will also gain another major home-improvement shopping option.
Why Lexington Exchange attracted Home Depot
The site is minutes from Naval Air Station Patuxent River. More than 20,000 military and civilian personnel work at the installation, according to St. John Properties.
The developer also says nearly 45,000 consumers live within five miles. Around 35,000 vehicles pass Lexington Exchange daily on Three Notch Road.

Those numbers position Lexington Exchange as more than a neighborhood retail center. Home Depot could become one of its most important traffic-generating tenants.
When will the St. Mary’s County Home Depot open?
An opening date has not been included in the official St. John Properties announcement. WMAR-2 also reported that no opening date had been announced.
Andrew Roud, St. John Properties’ regional partner for Southern Maryland, called the retailer’s arrival a major win for St. Mary’s County. He said the project should create full-time and part-time jobs.
The development also has additional sites being marketed for restaurants, financial institutions and urgent care facilities. That suggests Lexington Exchange is still expanding beyond its current tenant lineup.
