On Thursday, January 25, a court in Russia sentenced militant Girkin to four years in prison. The terrorist was convicted of “publicly inciting extremist activity” due to the fact that he actively criticized the conduct of the war against Ukraine.
This was reported by NBN with reference to the page of the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense on the social network X.
The department’s report says that the former “Minister of Defense of the DPR” in February 2022 spoke out in support of the so-called “special operation.” However, later the ex-officer of the FSB of the Russian Federation began to actively publicly criticize the authorities of the aggressor country and the military command of the occupiers.
The terrorist was arrested in July last year after the “justice march” of the Wagner PMC, and in November he announced his intention to to stand in the Russian presidential elections in 2024.
British intelligence explained that after the revolt of the leader of the “Wagnerites” Yevgeny Prigozhin, the Kremlin became more sensitive to criticism of the so-called “SVO” from the alternative to the Putin regime – conservative nationalists.
The department came to the conclusion that the prison term for Girkin is part of the persecution of those who criticize the Russian leadership and the war against Ukraine.
Earlier, Girkin admitted that he is afraid of repeating the fate of the “chef” Putin” by Yevgeny Prigozhin.
