Peter Greene, a character actor best known for his portrayal of the infamous villain Zed in Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction,” has died at the age of 60, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to The Associated Press.
Greene passed away at his home in New York City, confirmed his manager Gregg Edwards on Friday. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed. “He was just a terrific guy,” Edwards said. “Arguably one of the greatest character actors on the planet; he has worked with everybody.”
Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Greene began his career with leading roles in the early 1990s, including “Laws of Gravity” (1992) and “Clean, Shaven” (1993), according to IMDb.
In 1994, he achieved wide recognition for his role as the menacing Zed in “Pulp Fiction,” appearing in one of the film’s most notorious sequences alongside Bruce Willis and Ving Rhames. That same year, Greene played another significant villain opposite Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz in “The Mask.”
At the time of his death, Greene was involved in two projects, including a documentary examining the federal government’s withdrawal of funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development, Edwards said. “We’ve been friends for over a decade,” he added. “Just the nicest man.”
