A farewell ceremony for the legendary Italian designer Giorgio Armani is taking place in Milan, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to Traveller. The city’s mayor, Giuseppe Sala, declared a period of mourning, highlighting Armani’s significance for the global fashion industry and his impact on Milan.
Thousands of fans and celebrities gathered outside the Armani headquarters on Via Bergognone to pay their respects. Among those honoring the designer were Donatella Versace, Victoria Beckham, and Julia Roberts. According to AP, the ceremony was held with candles and music, creating an intimate and moving atmosphere.
Armani founded his brand in 1975, transforming it into a multi-billion-dollar empire encompassing fashion, fragrances, cosmetics, and the hotel business. His collections consistently combined elegance with practicality, leaving an indelible mark on the fashion world.
In Milan, a jubilee show marking the 50th anniversary of the Armani brand is planned, along with a retrospective exhibition at the Pinacoteca di Brera. The farewell ceremony is held in the Armani Theater, where the designer regularly showcased his collections.
The hall was decorated with candles casting a soft flickering light, accompanied by music from Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi. The coffin was closed and adorned with a bouquet of long white roses, flanked by ceremonial Carabinieri. Nearby, a marble sculpture featuring a crucifix was displayed.
Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala stated that Armani will remain a symbol of extraordinary elegance, impossible to forget.
