Anne Arundel County red light camera enforcement will expand on July 16, 2026. A new unit will begin operating at Route 2 Ritchie Highway and Ordnance Road in the southbound direction, according to the county police department, as reported by the Baltimore Chronicle.
The camera will monitor the intersection continuously. However, drivers will initially receive warnings rather than fines.
Where The New Red Light Camera Will Operate
The automated unit will cover southbound traffic at the intersection of Ritchie Highway and Ordnance Road. County police select camera locations using collision data and road safety assessments.
The system records vehicles entering the intersection after the traffic signal turns red. Red light camera enforcement operates 24 hours daily, including weekends and holidays.
Key details for motorists include:
- Activation date: July 16, 2026
- Location: Route 2 Ritchie Highway at Ordnance Road
- Monitored direction: southbound
- Operating schedule: 24 hours daily
- Warning period: 30 days
- Fine after the warning period: $75
The 30-day period allows drivers to adjust before paid citations begin. Warning notices may still contain information about the recorded violation.

When $75 Citations Will Begin
Paid enforcement is expected to begin after the 30-day warning period ends. Based on the announced activation date, citations could start around August 15, 2026.
| Enforcement stage | Expected action |
|---|---|
| From July 16 | Camera operates and warning notices are issued |
| First 30 days | Recorded violations do not generate $75 fines |
| After the warning period | Confirmed violations result in $75 citations |
Each alleged violation must be reviewed before a citation is approved. Anne Arundel County’s existing program also uses a $75 penalty after the required warning period.
What Drivers Will Receive By Mail
A citation will be mailed to the vehicle’s registered owner. It will identify the date, time and location of the violation.
The notice will also include photographic evidence showing the vehicle and traffic signal. The registered owner receives the citation even when another person was driving.
Motorists approaching the intersection should stop before the marked line when the light turns red. The new camera is part of the county’s broader automated traffic enforcement program.
